How to Meet and Date a Muscular Guy
In popular culture, one of the staples of the attractive male physique is that of muscular guy with six-pack abs and a well-defined V-shaped upper body. There have been many reasons put forward why women drool over muscular men, ranging from the evolutionary one according to which physically strong men offer their mates the best chances of survival of their offspring to more modern notions of sexual attractiveness. If you are one of those who have a thing for muscular guys, here are few ways how you can meet and date them.
Buy a gym membership
The gym has long been a favorite place for singles to check out potential partners. The venue helps girls and guys to chat up each other since the intention is not so obvious as in a bar or nightclub and neither is it so formal as it would be in a workplace. In fact the gym is a particularly good hang out if you are looking to meet muscular guys since it can be safely assumed that they will be into serious working out and shaping up. The weight room is especially a popular spot since many gyms claim that a majority of their male clients can be found pumping iron. And once you have decided on your target, watch when he starts using a strength-training machine so that you can ask to alternate reps with him. Don’t forget to compliment his triceps, and then follow it up by asking him to show you which exercises he does to keep so toned.
TIP: Match.com has many musular guys looking for women to date and marry. You can search by interest, filter by zip code and meet someone this weekend.
If you are the sort of girl who doesn’t mind trying out hair-raising physical acts, then getting involved adventure sports is a great way to meet athletic and muscular guys. Rappelling, rock-climbing, sky-diving, para-jumping are all activities you can choose from if you have a head for the heights. On the other hand if water is your element, go for deep-sea diving, snorkelling, canoeing and all kinds of surfing. Apart from being a whole lot of fun, you can get to know some real hunds who are equally enthusiastic about this sort of thing.
Then again athletes and body-builders are not the only guys who are the muscular sort. If you are not too keen into sports – or at least not so much so that your idea of a date is hanging upside down from a rock wall – try and meet guys who belong to professions where being physically strong and fit is a primary requisite. Military personnel and law enforcement officers come soonest to mind – and while it is their rugged, muscular look which may attract you most, you may also find yourself falling for the charm of a smart uniform. You can meet such guys in pubs or bars around military bases or nearby police precincts. A far better way to get acquainted with them would be attending charity galas, ceremonial dinners or balls hosted by military or police forces on important occasions. Other than these, look through personals and dating sites which specifically cater to the relationship needs of these men.
Models and actors are another group of professionals among whom you can find muscular guys since these men are into the business of looking good. Try to get an opening in the fashion or the entertainment industry where most of these guys move about. Photographers, designers, makeup experts, hair stylists, event managers and public relations executives of media companies are the people who interact with models and actors on a regular basis. The other option is to be seen at the right places like the biggest parties in town, corporate product launches, the hottest nightspots or page three events.
Now that you know where to meet a muscular guy, you also need effective ways of opening a conversation. Talking about the arts, movies and politics from around the world will rarely work with these guys. Rather brush up your knowledge of the most popular sports, the biggest teams in each or bodybuilding techniques which are trending now. Also you can score a brownie point with your new acquaintance by making specific remarks about sports and teams. For instance if the guy you meet at a sports bar is wearing a NASCAR cap, approach him with "I noticed your hat. Are you into racing?" it’s an opener that seems natural, not contrived. More than that, he will feel comfortable talking to you because it is a topic that he really gets and does not have to pretend to know about it.
Be ready to make adjustments
While you may be thrilled to show off your macho-looking boyfriend, keep in mind that all those muscles need maintenance. So be prepared for a partner to whom working out in the gym for long hours is non-negotiable. Whether it is your mom’s birthday or you will be leaving town the next day, your boyfriend will be unlikely to cut short his gym routine. Also many such guys will be rather strict about their diet – those who are professional models, athletes or body-builders are highly likely to stick to a healthy lifestyle. No junk food and fizzy drinks for them. Usually they are particular not to smoke or exceed a minimum level of alcohol, if at all they drink. All this may appear rather fussy if you are the kind of girl who likes her cheeseburgers and likes to party till the wee hours of morning. On the positive side though, if you begin dating such a guy seriously, some of his healthy living is bound to rub on to you as well. You will be eating better and working out more.
Even if you are dating a hunky military or police personnel for whom diet may not be such a big issue, you may still have to adjust to a different lifestyle. Overseas deployment, emergency duties and unpredictable work hours are some of the things you may have to negotiate if you are serious about your boyfriend.
Above all, muscular men who take pride in the co-relation between physical strength and male desirability are more likely than others to have sexist attitude towards women. According to a study1 conducted at the University of Westminster, stronger men do not make the best boyfriends. The study surveyed 327 straight British men, more than a third of whom were single, and discovered that the more muscular the participant, the more likely he was to have sexist beliefs and hostility toward women. At the same time such men are also less likely to be entirely committed to a single partner. This probably owes to centuries old patriarchal notions according which physical strength is what makes a ‘real man’ with the result that machismo and muscle power replaces other qualities that are essential in a male partner like emotional availability, sensitivity and adaptability.
So muscles or not, in the end the perfect guy is one who brings both emotional bonding and sexual chemistry in a relationship. While this seems a tall order, by all means keep looking for the man of your dreams, even if he is in the shape of the Greek god with six pack abs.
